Main Card

Mathew Tieu vs. Tam McCourt (57kg A Class)

In the main event, Team Tieu European Champion Mathew Tieu took on Glasgow’s Tam McCourt. This was a 4 round war with both fighters going toe to toe throughout the fight. This fight had it all, with among the highlights being Tieu’s well timed spinning elbow, as McCourt attempted a spectacular flying knee in the 3rd.

This was striking at its very best with McCourt attempting a spectacular caprara kick, which was blocked by Tieu who made McCourt pay the price for showboating by scoring a knockdown and receiving a standing count for his trouble.

Tieu began to take control in the closing stages, as he light’s McCourt up in the corner with stinging elbows from all angles. McCourt cheekily responds by laying on middle rope as a truly entertaining fight comes to an end.

Sherre Haliday vs. Salaysa Vd Bo (60kg A Class)

In MTC’s Women’s Prestige fight, England’s world Mauy Thai champion Sherre Haliday took on Dutch champion Salaysa Vd Bo. This was a “blink and you’ll miss it” affair with Vd Bo adopting a more direct K1 style striking, pressing the action from the bell, resulting in a knock down for the first time within the first minute of the contest, resulting in the Brit receiving an 8 count.

Things seemed to be going from bad to worse for the world champion, as her Dutch counterpart continued her relentless attack connecting with more power punches, flooring Haliday for the second time inside the first 2 minutes.

But with the bout seemly over, and with Vd Bo posed to secure a devastating 1st round win, seemingly out of nowhere, Haliday’s slick Mauy Thai game clicked into gear. Haliday pressed Vd Bo up in the corner and began scoring with knees and elbows, rocking her opponent. In the final minute of the round, Haliday landed a massive knee, sending Vd Bo crashing to the canvas and despite getting up before the 10 count, the referee felt she was unable to continue and called an end to the fight.
