December 3rd.13: Battle Arena – the UK’s leading amateur mixed martial arts promotion, is proud to announce a pair of championship bouts between Lewis Gannon vs David Gillan in a rematch for the Battle Arena British Featherweight Championship, and Johnny Gillan vs Gary mills for the vacant Battle Arena British Middleweight Championship, when Battle Arena returns to Leicester on February 22nd, 2014.
Brothers Johnny and David Gillan will be fighting side-by-side on Feb.22, challenging for respective crowns and looking to settle a score. With a background in freestyle Karate, the brothers have claimed titles in both kickboxing and MMA, with Johnny (amateur record: 9-3) most recently claiming the ISKA National Middleweight MMA Title from Kevin Richardson. He now answers the call of undefeated Gary Mills (amateur record: 6-0) who most recently submitted Andre Cranstoun via a first round arm-triangle.
Believing he won the original Battle Arena contest, David Gillan (amateur record 8-5) is determined to seek redemption when he challenges reigning champion Lewis Gannon in a hugely anticipated rematch for the Battle Arena British featherweight crown.
Johnny Gillan said: “After my last fight on Battle Arena it was bought to my attention that Gary Mills was putting it around that he wanted to fight me, so when James offered my a shot at the Battle Arena British Title, I thought make him put his money where his mouth is, so the match-up was made. Obviously I can’t wait to fight for this title but most of all, redemption for my brother is our main driving force behind training for this one, as we feel that Dave won the fight between himself and Lewis Gannon last time they fought. We also have Joey Dakin fighting on the same show in an international fight.”
Gary Mills said: “I hope my opponent trains hard and comes to fight, I’m just glad to get back in a cage and enjoy myself. I’d like to stop him in round 3 so I get plenty of cage time to make the fight camp worth it because I know it will be a tough camp. We’ve got some killers at our team now who all wanna take each others head off in sparring it’s good fun. I rate Battle Arena as the best amateur show in the country, James price is one of the soundest blokes you can meet, cheers mate nice one.”
