Stand and Bang

Upstart kickboxing promotion Stand and Bang held their eighth show, titled “Oblivion” on Saturday night in Woking.

As usual the fighters, promoter Kyle Greaves and his team brought fans in attendance a fantastic show that featured three ISKA title fights, a host of K1, C Class Thai, Full Thai Rules (A Class) fights as well as the UK’s first Muay Boran bout.

CHRIS COOPER (FEARLESS MMA) VS. DAWID ZOLTASZEK (PRIZEFIGHTERS)

In the main event at Stand and Bang, Chris Cooper claimed the vacant ISKA super heavyweight K1 title when scored to an impressive second round win over the prizefighters trained Dawid Zoltaszek. Birmingham native, Cooper had the edge in size and power and used it to land some big shoots to the head and the body hurting Zoltaszek on a number of occasions in the opening round.

It was more of the same in round two as Cooper, who is the number #3 ranked British heavyweight unleashed a barrage of blows on his opponent’s head and body forcing the referee call an end to the fight with just over a minute to go in the second.

Roped fists were the order of the day in the Stand and Bang co-main event, as Alan “The Dragon” Davies who fights out of Liverpool’s Men Pen Rai took on local favourite Rob Hayward who represented Shinkick in the UK’s first Muay Boran fight. In a keenly fought contest both men gave as good as they got until “The Dragon” landed a beautifully timed elbow, cutting his opponent above his left eye, resulting in the referee pausing proceedings to take a look at the cut.

Davies would continue to inflect damage, landing a well timed shot resulting in a haematoma appearing under the eye of Hayward and with Davies looking to cause more damage to his opponent, the referee halted the contest with 90 seconds gone in round two.

BEST OF THE REST

MACE RUEGG (HOUSE OF PAIN) VS. TOMMY GREEN (TOUCH GLOVES)

The kids almost stole the show at Stand and Bang as “the dancing leprechaun” Mace Ruegg who fights out of House of Pain took on Tommy Green in a 43kg encounter.  During the bout; which was a contender for fight of the night, both fighters would showcase technical brilliance that was beyond their years. But it was Ruegg who had the edge showcasing a wide array of striking to pick apart his opponent who took a more orthodox approach on the way to an impressive unanimous decision win.

NICOLA KAYE (BAD COMPANY) DEF. ANNE LINNE (FRONTLINE NORWAY)

It was a battle between England and Norway as Bad Company Leeds fighter Nicola Kaye squared off with Frontline’s Anne Linne for the womens ISKA 53.5kg European K1 title. In a spectacular performance Kaye’s would take the title back to West Yorkshire by setting a pace which was simply too much for her Norwegian opponent, winning by unanimous decision.

ANDERS FOSSUM (FRONTLINE NORWAY) VS. JAFAR MUKRI (SWEDEN)

Anders Fossum needed just 79 seconds to claim the ISKA 78kg K1 European title as he despatched Jafar Mukri in ruthless fashion. With less then a minute on the clock, he sent his opponent clashing to the canvas. Mukri would never recover from that knockdown and the Frontline fighter would connect with a devastating kick to head sending jafar to the canvas for the final time,  forcing the referee to call the fight.
