A new lightweight champion was crowned as Eduard Folayang (17-5) shocked the world when he defeated former champion Shinya Aoki (39-7-1) at ONE Championship Defending Honor which took place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium Hotel in Singapore.
Entering the contest Aoki was making the third defence of his lightweight but it wasn’t to be as the man who hails from Baguio City in the Philippines would weather an early storm and avoid numerous submission attempts in the opening round to roar back in round 3 to score a TKO win over the man nicknamed “Tobikan Judan“.
The defeat snapped the former champions 9-fight win streak stretching back to April 2012 when he suffered a first round loss to current UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez at Bellator 66.
In the co-main event featherweight champion Marat Gafurov (15-0) continued his reign of terror over the division when he scored his sixth rear naked choke submission win over Mongolian Jadamba. Narantungalag (13-4) thus ensuring that none of the Russians opponents during his time in ONE Championship has made it out of round one.
