Angela Lee retained her strawweight title in impressive fashion in the main event of today’s ONE Dynasty of Heros event which took place at the Singapore Indoor Arena, in Singapore.

After a tentative start to the bout from both fighters, Lee (8-0) was able to push her Nunes (6-1) up against the fence and would secure a body lock before landing a hip toss to take her opponent down to that canvas.

Once the fight hit the deck the champion would control that action and in the latter stages of the opening round, Lee would take her opponents back before attempting a twister submission which the Brazilian would be able to fend off despite eating a barrage of punches.

It would be more of the same in the second stanza as Lee would again successfully manage to take her opponent down before locking in a tight anaconda choke which Nunes was initially able to survive but not for long as she was forced to tap with 2:18 of round 2 gone.

Askren stay’s true to his word and finishes Thani in 1

In the co-main, after a year long lay off reigning welterweight champion Ben Askren made quick work of the previously undefeated prospect Agilan Thani to successfully defend his 170 lb belt for the second time.

Askren (16-0-1) wasted no time implementing his gameplan, immediately shooting and securing a takedown on his opponent. Once the fight hit the canvas “Funky” would manhandle his 21-year old opponent, locking him in a crucifix and would proceed to rain blow down upon the head of Thani (6-1).

The end would come at the 2:20 mark the opening round when after initially escaping from the crucifix, Thani would allow the champion to secure the mount before Askren would transition to an arm triangle for the win.

Also on the card, Sweden’s Zebaztian Kadestam coursed the upset of the night when he rallied from behind to score a 3rd round knockout over former welterweight contender  Luis Santos.

Santos (64-9-1) would dominant the opening two rounds, stalking Kadestam (9-3) while the fight remained on the feet and controlling the action when the fight hit the canvas. The end came with 2:18 of round 3 gone as a visibly tired Santos was takedown down before being forced to eat to massive knees to the head rendering him unconscious.

In the evening grappling super match despite an impressive performance, former ONE lightweight champion, Shinya Aoki came up short against multiple time BJJ no-gi world champion Garry Tonon.

Aoki would dominate throughout the match, taking Tonon down and controlling him at will before a mistake halfway through the encounter resulted in the 4x Eddie Bravo Invitational winner locking a heel hook for the win.
