BAMMA 21

BAMMA have announced that BAMMA 21 will take place on June 13th from the Barclaycard Arena, Birmingham and will be headlined by a bout between Andy DeVent vs. Cheick Kone for the vacant BAMMA middleweight world championship.

The news was broken on BAMMA’s Twitter.

DeVent (12-9) captured the BAMMA British Lonsdale middleweight championship at BAMMA 19: Blackpool, submitting Conor Cooke in the first round by rear naked choke. The 37 year-old will now be thrown into a world championship fight against Frenchman Kone.

“Cheikoss” (11-3) made his successful promotional debut in Wolverhampton at BAMMA 18, finishing Straight Blash Gym’s Chris Fields in just 23 seconds.

With such an emphatic debut it makes sense that Kone receives a shot at the world championship, however it is questionable why BAMMA would throw in their newly crowned Lonsdale champion into such a tough fight, where he will clearly enter the underdog.

Also announced BAMMA 21, the BAMMA heavyweight world championship will be on the line, Mark Godbeer (9-2) will face Paul Taylor (8-3) for the vacant gold.

Godbeer was successful at BAMMA 19, defeating Thomas Denham by first round TKO.

Birmingham’s own Taylor will be making his BAMMA debut, but comes in riding a four-fight win streak, including a win over Tomasz Czerwinski.

It seemed as if BAMMA were building towards a Godbeer vs. Karl Etherington fight, but due to the Blackpool based fighter’s loss in his own town, that was seemingly off the cards.
