BAMMA 22

In an exclusive to MMA PLUS, ‘The Honeybadger’ will meet ‘The Experiment’ at BAMMA 22: DuQuesnoy vs. Loughnane, when Ireland’s Philip Mulpeter makes his BAMMA debut against Tim Wilde at Dublin’s 3Arena on September 19.

Joining the already super-stacked BAMMA lightweight division, Mulpeter (7-5) has reportedly been sought after by the promotion for quite some time. When the promotion announced its first Irish venture, the stars aligned for the Straight Blast Gym fighter.

The popular Irish star; from Portarlington Laois, will make his return to the cage for the first time since January, where he lost a decision to Vitor Nobrega in Portugal.

Throughout his career, SBG Ireland’s Mulpeter has never shied away from fighting the best names in the sport. A competitor at both welterweight and lightweight, Mulpeter’s ‘big fight’ experience will give him a huge boost when he clashes with one of the promotion’s top 155lb prospects.

Wilde (6-1), who fights out of UTC Cannock, was originally scheduled to face Jack McGann at BAMMA 21 in June, but was forced out of the bout with an injury.

Instead, the 28 year old will make his promotional return; after almost two years, on enemy territory.

Mulpeter presents a great overall game, with a ‘dog fight’ mentality which could give him the edge if both men decide to brawl.

Wilde holds the reach advantage and will look to use his length to keep the distance between him and the Irishman whilst he looks for the knockout.

BAMMA Matchmaker Jude Samuel said: “This is the time for the returning Tim Wilde to make a difference in the lightweight division. He is over his unfortunate accident which forced him out of his BAMMA 21 fight against Jack McGann. He does not have the comforts of fighting in front of a home town crowd, he is in the Lion’s Den for sure.”

Samuel added: “Seasoned Mulpeter on the other hand, three out of his last four defeats have come by decision, so it could be a long night for Tim. Mulpeter has all the attributes and advantages to make this a very interesting war which will leave the Dublin crowd enthralled.”
