The British Association of Mixed Martial Arts (BAMMA) announced this morning that featherweight contender Brendan Loughnane has signed a multi-fight deal with the promotion.

Loughnane (10-1) has remained impressive and undefeated since his one and only loss via unanimous decision to fellow Brit Mike Wilkinson in the UFC in 2012. Following his stint on The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes, Loughnane went 3-0 in UKMMA promotion Full Contact Contender and also transitioned down to featherweight.

Loughnane made his BAMMA debut at featherweight and decimated Frenchman Florian Rousseau with a first round TKO at BAMMA 17 in 2014. At BAMMA 19 on March 28, 2015, Loughnane ended a 6 fight win streak of Steve Polifonte, also from France, via unanimous decision.

Loughnane has gone 5-0 since losing to Wilkinson, and many, including Loughnane, have called for him to have his shot at Tom Duquesnoy’s BAMMA World Featherweight Championship. Having now committed to a multi-fight BAMMA deal, the Manchester native is a big step closer to that title opportunity.

“Change; It might come forcefully like a tidal wave or creep along incrementally like a glacier.” said BAMMA Matchmaker Jude Samuel “The BAMMA featherweight division has been creeping along like a glacier until recently where it has just gone up in another level. The acquisition of Brendan Loughnane and his decision to drop to featherweight is a clear indication of the plans we have going forward for the division. Its exciting times and there are some exciting match-ups to be made.

“A lot has been said about Brendan’s decision to drop to featherweight but he has used David Brinkley’s thoughts and that is to ‘Lay a firm foundation with the bricks that others throw at you.’ I think the other featherweights in the division have just received a wake up call.”
