The weigh-ins for Bellator 173 took place earlier today with all fighters barring one successfully making weight at the first attempt.

In the main event former light heavyweight champion, Liam McGeary tipped the scales at 211.5lbs in a fight has seen two last minute changes of opponents after Chris Fields (11-7-1) was forced out of the contest due to an undisclosed illness and Vladimir Filipovic (8-2 MMA) was forced to withdraw because of issues obtaining a visa.

His new opponent Brett McDermott (7-4) has stepped up on just two days’ notice after announcing his retirement just 16 days ago to make his promotional debut. The Spartan who trains out of Flex MMA will enter the Bellator cage on Friday night and will face the toughest test of his MMA career when faces off against his fellow countryman at the SSE arena.

In the co-main event, Ireland’s James Gallagher weighed in 0.5lbs under the featherweight limit and his opponent, Isreal’s Kirill Medvedovsky hit the scales 0.5lbs heavier.

Bellator 173 takes place on Friday, February 24, 2017, at the SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

James McErleane came in over the the agreed upon weight limit but his fight with Shay Walsh will still go ahead.
