Fedor Emelianenko can fight Mitrione again in Bellator - Bruno Massami

After Fedor Emelianenko’s shocking Bellator MMA debut, losing to Matt Mitrione, Bellator President Scott Coker has revealed there could be a rematch on the cards.

In an interview to Russian media Tass, Coker revealed that fight can happen again under the Bellator banner. Mitrione knocked out Fedor in just 1:14 of the first round.

“The rematch can happen after Fedor’s next fight,” said Coker, confirming that Emelianenko is still looking to compete in the promotion after his TKO loss to Mitrione at Bellator 180 in New York City.

With a 30 day medical suspension; including no contact and 90 days out of competition, Fedor is expected to return to Bellator as he has a three fight deal with the Viacom owned brand and reportedly, he wants to honour that.

“I’m feeling good after the finish and think we can fight again. That’s what I’m looking [at] now. I want to fight Mitrione again,” Emelianenko told the media in a post-fight press conference.

At 40-years-old, Fedor received huge criticism from Russian fans when he decided to step away from the sport in 2012. After taking a majority decision over Fabio Maldanado in June 2016, “The Last Emporer” would make his American comeback one year later, his first fight there since July 2011.
