Bellator 138

The hugely touted heavyweight rematch between James Thompson (20-14) and Bobby Lashley (12-2) will take place at Bellator 138: Unfinished Business at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis on June 19.

The news was broken by The Denver Post, the state in which 38 year-old Lashley’s American Top Team Altitude is based.

Originally scheduled for Bellator 134: The British Invasion back in February 27, in Uncasville, Connecticut, the rematch between Thompson and Lashley was forced off the card due to Lashley sustaining an injury and the Thompson camp unable to agree to a new fight.

Their match-up was replaced by Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal (14-4) vs. Cheick Kongo (22-9-2), where Lawal picked up a split decision.

Bellator 138 is headlined by a heavyweight main event as Kimbo Slice makes his return to MMA to face UFC Hall of Famer, Ken Shamrock. With Slice 41 and Shamrock 51, but there isn’t much optimism that the fight will deliver; other than in the ratings.

However a strong undercard at Bellator 138 featuring a featherweight title fight as Patricio Freire defends vs. Georgi Karakhanyan as well as the return of Michael Chandler bodes well for the card.

36 year-old Thompson hasn’t lost since September 2010, with Lashley on a five-fight winning streak of his own, it is a tasty collision that pits two of the top heavyweights in the promotion against each other.

Brit Thompson; who is ranked the number one heavyweight in the UK, could fast track his push for a shot at the championship with a win over Lashley, who is likely the next in line should he leave Bellator 138 in St. Louis victorious.
