Stevie Ray def.Curt Warburton via submission (RNC) in 2:00 of round 2

In the second part of Cage Warriors main event double header Scotland’s Stevie Ray (16-5) made a successful first defines of his lightweight title when he defeated Curt Warburton (13-6) in front of his opponents’ home fans, putting an end to one of the biggest trilogy in UKMMA history.

The fight, which took place at the site of pairs first meeting, Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena would see Warburton immediately trying to pressure the champion, pressing him up against the cage landing with some elbows before looking for a takedown.

After just over a minute the action would return to the centre of the cage where the champion would connect with a number of kicks to the body of Warburton who would return fire with kicks to the legs of Ray. In the second half of the opening round Dinky Ninja’s trained Ray would brilliantly change levels to secure the first takedown of the fight, resulting both fighters attempting to finish each other with heel hooks in the closing seconds of the round.

In the second stanza the champion would land a big left hand, sending Warburton crushing to the floor. Ray would follow the 33-year old to the canvas landing punches to his downed opponent which result in Warburton going for a leg lock attempt. Ultimately the leg lock attempt would be in vain as 24-year old Ray would transition into mount and when there he would takes Warburton’s back, sinking in the rear-naked choke for the finish after 2:00 of round 2.
