Glover gets the decision

Brazilian Light-Heavyweight contender Glover Teixeira recorded a victory over Jared Cannonier at UFC 208. The judges scored the contest in favour of the 37-year-old (30-26, 30-26, 30-26) in a unanimous decision.

Glover revealed that he focused on “being smarter” in this fight and that a decision “Isn’t how I like to end his fights. The way I fought isn’t how I like to fight”. This being his fourth ever decision win from a staggering 26 victories, seeing the Nova Uniao man go the distance was a rarity.

“I need to work on my finishing”

With a lot of the fight taking place on the ground, Teixeira explained how he focused on his wrestling. Speaking to the media, he quoted “I’ve been focusing a lot on my wrestling. Before the [Anthony] Johnson fight that was the plan. I’ve been working a lot on my wrestling, jiu-jitsu, it’s very good. I maybe need to go down with “Jacare” and work on some finishing”.

Known as a knockout artist, the South American revealed how he sometimes relies too much on his power. He quoted “Sometimes i load up too much, I know i have the power and I look too much for the one punch knockout”.

Title shot for the Brazilian?

Nearing the end of his career, Glover will be looking for one last title shot before retirement. With Daniel Cormier defending the title against “Rumble”, we could see a potential rematch between Johnson and Teixeira in what would likely be his last shot at a UFC belt.
