McGann

British starlet Jack McGann returned to winning ways on EFN 50, when he defeated Russian fighter Abdulla Dadaev live on UFC Fight Pass.

After a tentative start, McGann rallied from a tight guillotine choke to win the bout by strikes at 2:12 of the first round.

The event took place in St. Petersburg on Friday, June 17 and featured Fedor Emelianenko in the main event against Brazilian and former UFC fighter Fabio Maldonado.

Before travelling to Russia, McGann told MMA PLUS about his excitement to represent ‘the greatest fighting city’ of Liverpool on enemy territory.

In the fight itself, Dadaev started with a right leg kick which immediately put McGann on notice and led into a scramble on the fence where the Russian scored the takedown.

The experienced grappler Dadaev then pulled guard into a very deep guillotine choke but a resilient 23-year-old escaped. The English fighter then landed three knees to Dadaev, two to the body and the following to the face, which forced the Russian lightweight to again try and take the fight to the ground.

However, McGann – who trains with some incredible wrestlers at the Wolfslair – showed why he is such a highly touted fighter, once again scrambling off the fence, he used his strength to push Dadaev away and land a flush knee which dropped his opponent momentarily, before he followed up with a right hand and a few ground strikes to end the bout.

With his big win in Russia, “The Pilgrim” extends his record to 10-2 with his win at EFN 50 and will now face former UFC fighter Paul Redmond at BAMMA 26 in Dublin, Ireland on September 10.
