Ur fight

A new upstart called UrShow.tv are hosting an event called Ur Fight which will feature a mixture of boxing, MMA, wrestling and grappling.

The news broke on Middle Easy through Justin Golightly, and in all honesty, it’s an insane concept – but it might just work.

Ur Fight, which takes place at the Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona on March 20, will feature the trilogy match-up between Ken Shamrock and Dan Severn; one of the hottest feuds in mixed martial arts, about 10 years ago.

Shamrock and Severn were two of the top stars in the pre-Zuffa era of the UFC. The sport was still battling the stigma as a ‘human cockfighting league’ but there was no doubt it’s popularity amongst the inner circles impinged on these two men.

In their first bout at UFC 6 in July 1995. It was probably one of the most one sided fight’s since Shamrock’s first encounter against Royce Gracie, with “The World’s Most Dangerous Man” stopping Severn in just 2:14 through guillotine choke.

Fast forward almost a year, their second fight – much bigger in scale despite it’s politically stricken lower buyrate, told an infinitely different story. The bout would go 30 gruelling minutes, with Severn the victor through split decision. It was garbage if I’m totally honest, both guys circled around each other for the first 3/4 of the fight and it was a genuine anti-climax.

So here we are in 2016, Shamrock now 51 and Severn, 57. Like a fine wine, this feud has probably, maybe improved with age and who knows for the few minutes it lasts it could actually make for enjoyable viewing.

However, Shamrock must get past Royce Gracie next week at Bellator 149, in another pre-Zuffa trilogy.

The rest of the card is equally as irrational (in a good way), Kurt Angle vs. Rey Mysterio, Jr. in a wrestling match, Roy Jones Jr. versus a fan – yes, a fan. One match-up which does look appealing is Michael Bisping vs. Chael Sonnen in a grappling match. Bisping faces Anderson Silva later this month in London, but if anyone remember’s Bisping and Sonnen’s first encounter in 2012, they will understand the irony of this.

This could quite possible be the most insanely genius idea to ever come out in the combat sport’s world; and you are lying to yourself if you don’t admit you’re even slightly intrigued.

MMA, which has for such a long time, caters towards a niche market – unless you are the likes of Ronda Rousey of Conor McGregor. But Ur Fight have cottoned onto what seems like a pretty solid concept, and it’s real – it’s damn real.
