Japan’s premier mixed martial arts promotion, Rizin Fighting Federation, has announced today the full participants of their inaugural women’s atomweight tournament, including star Rena Kubota.
With the tournament set to start on October 15 at Marine Messe Fukuoka, Rizin announced the return of two important atomweight names of Atomweight division, Japanese kickboxer Rena Kubota and Alyssa Garcia.
Queen of Girls Shootboxing S-Cup, Kubota faces the former King of the Cage Champion, American Andy Nguyen in the first round in Fukuoka.
The prospect of former UFC heavyweight champion, Josh Barnett, Garcia makes her second appearance in Rizin after she beat Kanna Asakura with a decision last December. She faces a Brazilian newcomer, Maria Oliveira Mota.
Also, more names were revealed. Coming from Spain, Irene Cabello Rivera makes her Rizin debut against Miyu Yamamoto and Polish fighter Sylwia Juskiewicz faces the winner of Kanna Asakura vs. Saori Ishioka, who face-off for a shot at the Grand Prix next Sunday at Deep Jewels in Tokyo.
The tournament has the first round in Fukuoka and second/final rounds are placed in Saitama Super Arena at Rizin’s New Year’s events on December 30 and 31.
