After launching a major campaign to join his fellow Scots at The SSE Hydro, Danny Henry has been granted his wish for a Scottish homecoming at UFC Glasgow on Sunday, July 16.

On July 1, EFC Worldwide tweeted a picture of Henry (10-2), congratulating him on signing with the UFC. Henry was still contracted to EFC, so this is an indication that it was an amicable split, with the South African promotion allowing him out of his deal.

Henry retweeted this on his own social media account and also confirmed the news on Facebook, according to The Scottish Sun. It was also reported by them that he is expected to make his debut at lightweight, against Swedish fighter Daniel Teymur.

He has spent the last two and a half years fighting on the African continent. During his tenure with EFC, the Edinburgh fighter captured the featherweight championship twice.

Fighting out of Higher Level MMA, alongside fellow UFC fighter Stevie Ray, Henry’s fight in Glasgow will mark his first bout in Scotland since December 2014.

Besides the two James Doolan trained fighters, Scots Joanne Calderwood and Paul Craig will also feature at The SSE Hydro

Headlining the event, Icelandic fighter Gunnar “Gunni” Nelson will face Argentine Santiago Ponzinibbio in a top 15 welterweight clash.
