Ask and you shall receive….Well if your Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at least as it was this evening announced that the UFC lightweight will step in to replace Eddie Alvarez against Benson Henderson in 2-weeks time after it emerged that former Bellator lightweight champion Alvarez has been struck down with the flu.

Fresh off of his win over Myles Jury at UFC 182 this past weekend and after requesting to be placed on next months Denver card, UFC matchmakers have gone one better and given Cerrone (25-6-1) the chance to records his 7th win in just over a year against Henderson in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 59.

His opponent Benson Henderson (21-4) will be looking to rebound from a knockout loss to #1 ranked lightweight Rafael Dos Anjos at UFC Fight Night 49 in August last year.

This will be the 3rd meeting between the pair who faced each other on two separate occasions while competing in the now defunct World Extreme Cagefighting. In their first meeting Henderson would secure a unanimous decision win to claim the WEC interim lightweight title, before scoring a 1st round submission win via guillotine choke over the Jackson-Wink trained fighter. In this latest meeting red-hot Cerrone will surly look to gain a measure of revenge for their two losses against 31-year old Henderson.

UFC Fight Night 59 takes place in Boston, Massachusetts on the 18th of January.
