Joe Duffy

After just two UFC fights, and two wins, ‘Irish’ Joe Duffy will headline the promotion’s return to Dublin on October 24 against Dustin Poirier.

Forget Conor McGregor (for now) because it is clear that the UFC are using this event at the 3Arena to push Duffy as Ireland’s next breakout star.

The announcement was made during a media appearance by Duffy on TV3’s Ireland AM Wednesday morning.

Currently training out of Montreal’s Tristar Gym, under Firas Zahabi, Duffy has shown excellent composure with two first round stoppages in the UFC.

Back-to-back victories in 2015, a TKO of Jake Lindsey and a Performance of the Night triangle choke over Ivan Jorge in Glasgow.

The last man to defeat Conor McGregor, Duffy (14-1) has impressed thus far into his UFC career, but faces a much bigger challenge against No. 14 ranked Lightweight Poirier in Dublin.

Regarded a contender at Featherweight, a loss to Conor McGregor derailed Poirier’s hopes at a title shot, however ‘The Diamond’ has looked reinvigorated since his step up to 155lbs, with two TKO’s over Yancy Medeiros and Carlos Diego Ferreira.

McGregor headlined UFC Dublin last year against Diego Brandao; after only two UFC fight’s himself, and the rest is history.

Duffy will fight to emulate that rise, as he looks to solidify himself as the best Irishman in the UFC.

Other fighters such as Paddy Holohan, Gunnar Nelson and Cathal Pendred are slated for the event, expect more announcements from the UFC in the coming weeks.
