UFC heavyweight Mark Godbeer was left feeling “gutted” last night after his fight at UFC 216 in Las Vegas was cancelled at the last-minute.

The Englishman was set to fight surging heavyweight Walt Harris at the T-Mobile Arena on the preliminary segment of the card, but just 30 minutes prior to his scheduled bout, a series of events occurred which no one could have predicted. Derrick Lewis, who was due to fight Fabricio Werdum on the main section of the card pulled out after aggravating an old back injury.

Initially, it appeared as though Godbeer’s fight with Harris would be moved onto the main card but this was not meant to be as Harris was offered the chance to fight Werdum which he willingly accepted.

Harris was unable to capitalise on the opportunity however after the former heavyweight champion needed only 65 seconds to take him to the mat before locking in an armbar to finish the bout.

Despite the late cancellation which resulted in him being left with no opponent and being unable to fight, Godbeer showed his class taking to social media where he insisted he did not blame the UFC or his opponent for the series of events that occurred.

It wasn’t all bad news for the heavyweight however as according to a report from MMAUno.com, Godbeer says he received his full show and win money despite not entering the Octagon last night. Also according to a statement Godbeer posted to Facebook, it looks as if he may step foot in the Octagon sooner than expected.
