The injury curse of Dominick Cruz has struck once again. Just when it seemed like he was out of the woods, the former UFC bantamweight champion has now suffered an ACL injury in his right knee.

Cruz (20-1) had returned to action on September 27 with a first round KO victory over Takeya Mizugaki at UFC 178; it was the American’s first time back in the Octagon since October 1, 2011 with ‘The Dominator’ having suffered a series of knee injuries that resulted in him being stripped of the UFC title.

Having made an impressive statement upon his return, 29-year-old Cruz was handed a shot at the crown he never lost, and was lined up to face current 135lb champion T.J. Dillashaw (11-2).

Cruz released the following statement via Facebook:

The UFC are yet to announce a new title contender; however, former champion Renan Barao (30-2-1NC) may well be the front runner as the Brazilian campaigns for a rematch with Dillashaw following his submission victory over Mitch Gannon at UFC Fight Night 58 on December 20.
