Making his first public appearance in several months, Jon Jones commented on the recent weigh-in debacle which involved former foe, Daniel Cormier.

On Friday, a dramatic weigh-in saw Daniel Cormier ‘lose’ 1.2 lbs in the space of two minutes and make weight at the second time of asking, weighing 205lbs, the light-heavyweight championship limit.

Social media was quick to respond to this as it seemed like Daniel Cormier balanced his weight out with the aid of a towel. The cause of the sudden weight loss is still unknown with numerous theories. Cormier has not been punished regarding the controversy.

Jon Jones was quick to be critical of “DC” when asked about the situation. Responding to a question on the weigh-in, Jones described the situation as “absolutely nuts.”

“I couldn’t believe what I was witnessing,” Jones proclaimed ahead of UFC 210 in Buffalo, New York. “If you look at his hands, him looking down, you can see him balance his weight just right to make 205 [lbs]. What a clever trick. Pretty dishonest of him.”

Jones insisted that it should be revisited and that there should be some action taken against it. “The crazy thing is that it’s been allowed to happen. There has to be some sort of commission to go back and see this blatant foul play and address it. Nobody’s addressed it and it’s one of the dirtiest things I’ve seen in sport.”

The rivalry between Cormier and Jones has been a lengthy one and is showing no signs of slowing down. Cormier insisted that ‘Jones would not be welcome in the octagon and if he entered, it wouldn’t be pretty’.

Jones responded by saying “I should find out what he meant by that… But I’m not going to harass the guy, he can have his moment, his last moments with the belt.”

Jon Jones protests “I am innocent”

Cormier, as well as fellow light-heavyweight Jimi Manuwa, have branded Jones a cheat in regards to the reasons for his failed drug test. Jones was quick to shut down any claims of him being a cheat.

“It’s his opinion. I think deep down he knows I didn’t cheat. Jimi Manuwa also came out and said I was a cheater as well. Which I am not. I have never cheated in this sport. Every ounce of muscle has been hard work, dedication, focus and a lot of God’s grace.”

“I’m not concerned about it following me because I believe the fans see what happened. For people who aren’t aware of what happened, it’s very well documented on exactly how it happened and we’re dealing with some really smart people such as USADA.

“If I was guilty, there’d have been a stricter punishment. I got the minimum because I’m innocent. The only thing I am guilty of is not going through the proper steps to prevent the situation from happening. I had an estrogen blocker that is not performance enhancing at all. That was the only thing.”

“Bones” humorously admitted that he had taken sex pills that were found and recommended the pills to the media saying “Highly recommend it guys, f—ing great.”

Jones reflects on his MMA career

Jones insisted that he had time to reflect on what a brilliant career he has had. “I have also had a very hard career” the New Yorker stated. “Look at my resume and I’ve beaten some of the toughest guys in history.

“This is mixed martial arts and I’m surely the best martial artist that’s ever walked this planet.”

Many people are eager to see Jones’ return and claim that he is the “real light-heavyweight champion” and that it is a matter of time before he reclaims the belt. With Jones eligible to fight in July, it isn’t long before the former UFC champion returns.

As of yet, no opponent has been announced and Jones insisted that no talks have been held with the UFC regarding potential opponents but he his keeping himself ‘ready to go’.
