It seems increasingly likely that José Aldo’s (26-2) tenure in the UFC could soon be over if his gets way. The current UFC interim featherweight champion asked to be released from his contract with the worlds number 1 mixed martial arts promotion shortly after the announcement that Conor McGregor (20-3) would face Eddie Alvarez (28-4) at UFC 205, putting a long awaited unification bout on hold.

As a result the Brazilian has decided to call an end to MMA career altogether with the 30-year old stating that he “felt disrespected and not even a rematch against Conor McGregor can get him to change his mind”.

Despite this stance UFC President Dana White still believe that a satisfactory resolution for both parties can be found but Aldo and his team have contacted lawyers with a view to bringing his time with the promotion to an end.

In a recent interview with SporTV the Nova Uniao trained featherweight said.

“A with fight him [McGregor] is the fight that should happen next in the featherweight division. I conquered it ever since I entered the UFC. I saw other champions losing and fighting right away for the belt. That was the right thing”.

”But they [UFC] made me fight for the interim title, I went there and won, but I still don’t get to fight with McGregor… so now I want to be released from my contract.”

With a number fights still remaining on his contact it is unlikely that the organisation will be willing to let one of their superstars leave with putting up a fight.
