It looks like Khabib Nurmagomedov is set to meet Tony Ferguson for the interim Lightweight title at UFC 209 on March 4.

The news was first broken by via TalkMMA’s twitter page who claims the bout is now on.

Unbeaten Nurmagomedov (24-0) has been nothing short of dominant during the 5-years he has competed under the UFC’s banner, battering his way up the rankings and defeating the likes of Gleison Tibau, former UFC Lightweight Champion Rafael dos Anjos and most recently Michael Johnson at UFC 205.

Now with current 155lbs title holder Conor McGregor (21-3) taking time off in preparation for the birth of his first child “The Eagle” who currently sits ay No. 1 in the UFC rankings will fight for the right to be called interim champion.

His opponent Ferguson (22-3) is considered by many as the best lightweight in mixed martial arts today. Since dropping a unanimous decision to Michael Johnson in May 2012, “El Cucuy” gone on a 9-fight win streak that has seen him claim 6 finishes against the likes of Mike RioGleison Tibau and Edson Barbosa along the way.

Now with the prospect of claiming his 10 successive win and ending Nurmagomedov’s perfect start to his mixed martial arts career the 32-year old will surly secure a unification fight with McGregor in the near future.

UFC 209 takes place March 4 2017 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
