In an peculiar revelation Nate Diaz says he will not be squaring off against Matt Brown at UFC 189, and that he instead expects to face former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis.

With the UFC yesterday officially announcing the bout, it appeared all parties were satisfied and the fight was set to go ahead.

But, Diaz claimed he was under the impression he was to face ‘Showtime,’ and the announcement that he was to instead fight Brown came as an unwelcome surprise.

“We were supposed to meet with the UFC next Monday to get my next fight figured out,” explained Diaz to MMAFighting.com, “but then they busted out the Matt Brown fight. I thought I was fighting Anthony Pettis next. He’s trying to fight me and I’m trying to fight him.”

He did however insist that he’s interested in the Brown fight, but he just disagrees with the way the UFC have handled negotiations.

“I’m open to the Brown fight. I said I wanted to fight him last year, but I don’t like that they made the fight official before we ever negotiated or agreed to it.”

Following numerous contract stand offs and a history of fallouts, the news is just another indication of how fractured Diaz’s relationship with his employers has become.
