It has emerged this evening that top Irish fighter Paul Redmond (10-4) has been snapped up by the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
According to Irish MMA outlet Severemma.com, the Team Ryano trained fighter who previously competed at lightweight has signed a 4-fight deal and will be moving down a weight class to make his featherweight debut at UFC on FOX 14 in front of 30,000 fans at Stockholm’s Tele2 arena against undefeated Mirsad Bektic (8-0).
28-year old Redmond who joins teammate Neil Seery in the UFC previously competed under the Cage Warriors umbrella amassed an impressive record of 7-1 while competing for the top European promotion, defeating the likes of Lewis Long, Ryan Roddy and most recently Alexis Savvidis via 2nd round toe hold submission at CWFC 70 last August. The exciting Dubliner will look to start his octagon career off with a win when his faces the undefeated American.
Redmond’s opponent Bektic, who is 5-years his junior will make his second appearance for the worlds number 1 mixed martial arts promotion after securing a majority decision win over Chas Skelly at UFC on Fox 11 and will look to record the 9th of his professional career when his face Redmond.
UFC on Fox 14 takes place on Saturday, January 24th 2015 at Stockholm’s Tele2 Arena.
