The first ever Scot in the UFC, Robert Whiteford couldn’t be happier that the promotion are making their Scottish debut on Saturday, July 18 at the SSE Hydro, as he readies himself for war against Irishman Paul Redmond.

“This all started in a small club in Alloa, five years ago when I started training. I knew in my head where I wanted to be, I knew I wanted to bring the UFC to Glasgow, and people might have called me crazy then but it’s the crazy people that make the difference.

“I was the first Scot in the UFC, I’m going to be the first Scot walking out there in front of 11,000 people, it can’t get any better, it’s going to be amazing.”

A historic rivalry between the Scottish and the Irish, 33 year-old Whiteford tells us he looks forward to pummelling his opponents for three rounds, but predicts a first round finish.

“I’m prepared to beat the s**t out of f****ng Redmond for 15 minutes, I’m hoping it’s not going to go that way, I’m going to take him out in the first round, but so be it, if I beat him up for 15 minutes, then so be it. I just hope they pay me over time.”

Whiteford also talks about Scotland’s long wait for a UFC show, moving towards a new generation of fighters and Scottish professional wrestling sensation Grado.
