An intridging match-up between Brazilians Ronaldo ” Jacare ” Souza and Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort has been announced for UFC Fight Night 87 which takes place at a currently undisclosed location in Brazil in May.
The bout which was announced via the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s Instagram account will see Jacare (22-4-1) who is ranked No.3 in the middleweight division take on his fellow countryman Belfort (25-11) who currently sits one place below his compatriate at No.4 in the rankings.
Since first entering former Strikeforce champion Souza has smashed his way into title contention, racking up five straight wins inside the octagon, before dropping a controversial split decision to Yoel Romero (11-1) at UFC 194 last month. But with a potential suspension on the horizon for Romero relating to a doping violation, Souza could earn a title shot with a win over the The Phenom.
Belfort who bounced back from a 1st round TKO loss against former champion Chris Weidman (13-1), with a knockout win in his third meeting with Dan Henderson (31-14) at UFC Fight Night 77 could also earn another crack at the title with a win over Souza.
