Birmingham’s Tom Breese extended his perfect record to 8-0 on May 30 at UFC Fight Night in Goiania, Brazil.
An original product of Fearless MMA, his home town gym, Breese is now a full time member of Canada’s famed Tristar Gym in Montreal after first venturing across the Atlantic in 2013 where he served as a sparring partner to former UFC Welterweight king Georges St-Pierre as he prepared to fight Nick Diaz at UFC 158.
Known for his tremendously well rounded abilities, Breese specialized in wrestling as a British Junior Wrestling Champion, and quickly development educated hands as a sparring partner to professional boxers with potential to reach an impressively high level according to former coach Naji Al Harbi.
On the UKMMA scene, Breese claimed seven wins and a draw in amateur competition before turning professional to snatch seven dominant victories and the BAMMA-Lonsdale British Welterweight title with relative ease. Boasting six submissions and one knockout stoppage to his name, Breese joined the UFC and was set to face Brazil’s Luiz Jorge Dutra, on his opponent’s home turf.
Standing a huge 6-foot-3-inches in the 170lb division, it took less than one round for Breese to snatch the win at 4:58 of the opening stanza. Poised and unshaken by debut jitters or the hostile Brazilian chants, Breese threw a right hand to set up a straight left shot that sent Dutra to the canvas. ‘The Octopus’ secured his opponent on the ground and released precise, quick-fire ground-and-pound without mercy to force the referee stoppage.
At 23 years of age, Breese has further solidified his status as one of the nation’s most promising young prospects and could swiftly become the UK’s next big thing in the UFC.
