UFC fighter Tom Breese is ‘ready to rumble with these big boys’, as he announces his move up from 170lbs.

The Welterweight athlete from Birmingham made his UFC debut in 2015 following his recovery from a long-term knee injury. He fought in both BAMMA and Cage Warriors on the UK scene.

It was a good start for the 24-year-old in the UFC, with wins over Luiz Dutra Jr., Cathal Pendred and a decision over Keita Nakamura at UFC London. At the time Breese was training out of Tristar Gym in Montreal, Canada.

On June 4, Breese was subjected to the toughest test of his career, a fight against Sean Strickland at UFC 199. Despite his efforts, the Brit was unable to overcome the tricky Strickland, who took a split decision victory.

Breese was always a very big Welterweight and had to cut a lot of weight to make the 170lb limit.

He even admitted on War of the Words podcast that had to be extra disciplined with his diet, walking around at 210lbs.

Announcing the news on Facebook, he stated: “No more draining myself down to 170. My future at 185 I’m ready to rumble with these big boys.”

Now, with a less taxing weight cut on the horizon, the Birmingham native has his sights set on the ‘big boys’ in the UFC Middleweight division.
