It broke the UFC’s attendence record, it set a new gate record at the Etihad ($6.8 million US.) however, it saw one of the UFC’s biggest stars taste defeat for the very first time inside the Octagon.
Many questioned whether or not Holm had the heart to keep her range and exercise the brilliant kickboxing she is known for. Many of Rousey’s previous opponents have had strong gameplans but crumbled under the pressure of MMA’s biggest spotlight.
Holm would be the first to excel.
It took two rounds for the former Boxing world champion to insert her dominance and shock the world with her showcase over Olympic Judoka Rousey.
Jackson and Winkeljohn’s Holm; who has had the support of her entire camp for the entire build-up, defied the odds and finished Rousey with a deadly high kick, sending the long-time champion into a pool of unconsciousness.
Silence fell upon the Etihad, as just over 56,000 pondered upon what they had just witnessed. Rousey is no longer untouchable and Holm has forged her place in mixed martial arts history.
