BAMMA 26

Alan ‘The Apprentice’ Philpott will defend his Lonsdale Bantamweight title against new BAMMA signee Aaron ‘Smackwell’ Blackwell at BAMMA 26 on Sat, June 4 in Dublin, Ireland.

BAMMA 26 takes place at the 3Arena in Dublin and will feature Paul Craig defending his Light-Heavyweight gold against Ireland’s own Chris Fields in the main event.

There had been speculation over the past 24 hours that BAMMA were going to announce Alan Philpott’s opponent for June. When the signing of Blackwell was made public this morning, it all but confirmed the reports that Northen Ireland’s Philpott would welcome him to the roster.

The BAMMA fight announcement stated:

Lonsdale Bantamweight Champion Alan ‘The Apprentice’ Philpott (15-7) returns to the 3Arena on June 4th to defend his newly won title for the first time. Going 4-1 in his last 5 fights, Philpott has recently refocused on his fight career and has seen immediate results in his performances alongside a series of key victories. With his last bout ending via doctor stoppage against Nathaniel Wood to pick up the Lonsdale Title, Philpott has had no end of challengers calling him out in the time since his win. Now he has his sights set on both defending his title and putting himself back in line for a shot at the BAMMA Bantamweight title, currently held by Shay Walsh. The Ballymena fighter out of IMMA/Next Gen N.I. under Rodney Moore is ready to go and to take on all comers and that begins at BAMMA 26 with Aaron Blackwell in Dublin.

Aaron ‘Smackwell’ Blackwell (15-9-1) out of Morden, London has been making a name for himself on the UK regional circuit for sometime now. Undefeated in six years and on a seven fight winning streak that includes the likes of Mike Cutting, Kris Edwards and Adam Venture, Blackwell has been knocking on the door of a major call up for some time now. Signing on the dotted line with BAMMA, Blackwell hopes to make an immediate impact, by dethroning the current champion and getting his name in the mix for taking on the winner of Walsh Vs. Duquesnoy at BAMMA 25: Champion Vs. Champion. The Nova Forca fighter and training partner of BAMMA bantamweight Nathaniel ‘The Prospect’ Wood will also be looking for the chance to dish out some revenge on Philpott for his win over Wood at BAMMA 24 and bring the gold back to London.
