And the water just keeps getting muddier as another high profile MMA fighter – this time former UFC title contender Jon Fitch (26-7-1) – has failed a drugs test.
Taken before Fitch’s WSOF 16 title bout against champion Rousimar Palhares on December 13, the test was conducted by the California State Athletic Commission.
Despite the CSAC failing to disclose the substance in question, sources close to the fighter say it’s for ‘elevated levels of testosterone.’
The news brings yet more adverse attention to a sport already reeling from numerous recent positive tests, most notably Jon Jones’ cocaine bust and Anderson Silva flagging for anabolic steroids following his victorious return against Nick Diaz.
Here’s hoping this is the last we hear on positive drugs tests for a while, as the sport could certainly do with some good publicity of late.
