It was announced in July that British MMA and boxing veteran Tony Moran had earned the fight of a lifetime when he was chosen from a shortlist of fighters to take on boxing icon Roy Jones Jr, in Moran’s home town of Liverpool at the Aintree Equestrian Centre on September 12.

Moran has today revealed that he received an invite from the family of Welsh boxing legend Joe Calzaghe, and his father Enzo Calzaghe, who appreciate his story. In recent years Moran has battled setbacks and homeless with determination and charitable efforts. Liverpool’s own “Cinderella Man” recapped his journey at a recent press conference.

Roy Jones served as Joe Calzaghe’s final opponent at New York’s Madison Square Garden in 2008 before the Super Middleweight and Light Heavyweight veteran retired with a perfect 46-0 record. Calzaghe battered and cut Jones en route to claiming a unanimous decision victory to retain The Ring Light Heavyweight title and retire as an undefeated champion across two weight classes, placing himself among the UK’s all time greatest fighters.
