The UK-MMA clash between former UFC heavyweights Oli Thompson (11-5) and Neil Grove (12-6-1), has been cancelled.

Originally set for UCFC 6 – Legends of MMA on July 27 in Doncaster, Thompson (above) revealed the news through Facebook:

“Bad news my fight this Saturday at ucfc is now off, sorry to anyone travelling to support me and to the guys that have helped me get into great shape again. Details to follow, I know very little.”

Via Twitter, Neil Grove revealed that the cancelled is due to behind the scenes issues between fighter and the Ultimate Cage Fighting Championship organiser. Similarly, the UCFC 6 main event clash between UK-MMA pioneer Ian Freeman and UFC Hall of Famer Ken Shamrock, was also dropped for similar reasons, with former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez stepping in to face Freeman. “It’s due to a disagreement with the event organiser,” explained Grove. “I’ve offered Oli an alternative. Waiting to make it happen.”

Following suggestion of the bout being re-staged under the UCMMA banner, Grove responded, “whether it is or not. The fight is due. Let it be with a company that values the fighter.”
