In the main event of UCMMA 35, Karlos Vemola (10-4) will challenge Denniston Sutherland (20-10) for the UCMMA middleweight title in London, taking place at The Troxy on August 3.
A UK-MMA powerhouse, Vemola was recently released from the Ultimate Fighting Championship, and is looking to make a statement on his return to the British circuit after two consecutive defeats under the Zuffa banner. Win or lose, Vemola often fought at entertaining fight. The London based Czech built a 2-4 UFC record, including victory over veteran Seth Petruzelli at UFC 122, claiming a monstrous knockout of the night bonus in the process.’The Terminator’ was undefeated prior to joining the UFC, and is yet to be defeated on British soil.
Sutherland is the reigning UCMMA 185lb champion, having captured the belt at UCMMA 33 when defeating Ben Callum by split decision. He lost his following fight to Lee Chadwick at Olympian Mixed Martial Arts Championships on June 1, but quickly returned to winning ways in early July when he defeated Brett Bassett by TKO. Despite being an older veteran of the cage, the Jamaican born ‘Mad Max’ has produced some of his best form in recent bouts, able to suck the life out of more youthful opponents with an aged grit.
Taking on a less experienced Karl Kinslow, light-heavyweight Polish juggernaut Prezemyslaw Mysiala returns to UK-MMA following his Bellator debut loss to ‘king Mo’ in January. A fearsome product of London Shootfighters, the vast majority of ‘Misiek’s’ 16 career wins have been snatched with a first round knockout or submission.
Also on the card, Ian ‘Badman’ Martell steps in to face Marc Navarro on short notice for the vacant UK-1.
With two openings on the card, Martell also had the opportunity to face fellow 205-pounder Nick Champman under MMA rules, following the injury withdrawal of ‘Big’ Ben Smith, who sustained ligament damage in his arm.
Martell most recently extended his MMA record to 9-1 with a first round KO knee strike at Sparta MMA in Brazil, having spent a number of months training and competing in the South American MMA hotbed. However, it will be all stand-up striking on on Aug 3, as the light-heavyweight UK-1 title is decided.
