In a night packed with thrills and spills; Killacam Fight Night returned for their 7th show which took place at The Winter Gardens and treated fans to an early candidate for ‘fight of the year’ if not ‘comeback of the year’.

Ben McGonigle vs. Ylies Djiroun

In the main event local favorite and Titan Force fighter Ben McGonigle was originally scheduled to face ‘Mr Pain’ Jamaine Facey, but took on a late replacement in the form of French prospect Ylies Djiroun who fights out of French team Evolution Pancrase.

In the early exchanges the Frenchman would dominate proceeding, mixing slick striking and takedowns to bust up McGonigle in rounds 1 and 2. Despite getting the best of the exchanges in the opening two rounds, it wasn’t all one-way traffic for Djiroun, who would have to withstand barrage after barrage from his oppoent who was finding success when landing to the body.

In round 3 the fight would slowly begin to turn in McGonigle’s favour, at a relentless pace the former independent fighter was landing power shots to the head and body of his opponent and begining to do serious damage.

The action would not slow upon the start of round 4, with both fighters standing in the pocket and slugging it out. Unfortunately for Djiroun there was absolutely no quit in McGonigle who continued to rain blows to the Frenchman’s head and body before two killer body shots resulted in Djiroun collapsing against the fence leaving the referee with no option but to call an end to this instant classic at 1.15 in to the fourth round.

Make no mistake, this come from behind victory had all the ingredients to be considered as an early candidate for ‘fight of the year’ with McGonigle more than making up for the technical disadvantage that was eveident with heart, passion and a stubborn determination rarely seen ANYWHERE.

After his latest victory the now inaugural KFN lightweight champion McGonigle improves his record to 6-3, with his opponent Djiroun slipping to 6-3.
