Niclas Larsen returned to GLORY Kickboxing last night in Chicago with an impressive victory at GLORY 38 SuperFight Series after a three year hiatus.

During his time away from GLORY, Larsen had to overcome major health issues including, having to learn how to walk again, after having surgery to save his leg from serious staph infections.

Larsen would emphatically defeat Lukasz Plawecki via unanimous decision in what was the opening fight of the GLORY 38 Chicago undercard. His performance was outstanding as he technically outclassed the aggressive and pressuring Plawecki.

As part of his preparations for his GLORY return, Larsen had spent a three week training camp in the Netherlands where he would spend two of those three weeks training at Hemmers Gym. The gym is renown for the quality of coaching under the stewardship of head coach, Nick Hemmers who’s oldest brother was the late great, Ramon Dekkers.

“It was my first time. The training camp was only like three weeks and the two first week in Hemmers Gym and then they had to go to LA.” said Larsen in the build-up to GLORY 38. “For me, it didn’t make sense to try a different gym but I must say that Hemmers Gym is just incredible and I feel very home at there and I definitely come back because they were like yeah, the level was amazing.”

“I feel that you know, every training was like I got a little adrenaline and it was like you know; and the guys there are just nice, its nice to come down and its very serious when you train after you can go out and get something to eat and its you know, very nice. I lived at a fighter’s house over there. It was all about you know fighting and being together with come cool guys and just preparing. So yeah, I can only say good things about Hemmers Gym. They were so nice and Nicky, he’s a very good teacher.”

In the days leading up-to GLORY 38, it was announced that Larsen would co-headline GLORY 40 in Copenhagen against an opponent yet to be confirmed. Headlining GLORY’s return to Denmark on April 29, will be a second rematch between defending middleweight champion, Jason Wilnis and the former champion, Simon Marcus.
