Canadian GLORY star, Josh Jauncey wants to lead the charge as ‘the guy that makes kickboxing big in North America’, speaking on War of the Words podcast.

22-year-old Jauncey; who was born in London, England, moved to Vancouver, Canada at the age of three. However, the rising sensation considers himself more English than Canadian and admits he’d love to represent on the GLORY London card, slated for April this year.

“I would really, really, really love to fight in England, especially in London,” said Jauncey. “Over here in Canada; a lot of guys have a fan base of where they are from, their nationality or something and I don’t really have that because it’s not like there’s a very close together English community over here.

“I would like to get my name out there in England a little bit more and let everyone know, yeah I’m an English fighter, I represent England as well as Canada and to be honest I feel more English than I am Canadian, that’s how I feel.”

The World Kickboxing/Xtrm Fitness (WKX) fighter also spoke about North America’s struggle for identity in kickboxing and put himself forward as one of the fighters to lead the charge to make the sport big in the United States and Canada.

“When they [the rest of the world] hear they are fighting a North American, most people are rubbing their hands together going ‘alright, this is easy money’. That’s just how it’s been for the past, I don’t know, 20 years. There are only a couple standouts, it’s not like Europe and Asia where you’ve got loads of guys from the kickboxing countries, so it’s cool to now be part of this resurgence of North American fighters, particularly Canadians.

“I don’t see Americans doing much with kickboxing but with Canadians, there are quite a few of us who can hang on the top level. It’s nice to be part of that and it’s nice to be part of that change.

“I’ve always said I want to be the guy that makes kickboxing big in North America. I’ve always said I wanted that, and despite me being English or something. I think it deserves to be big here and people will like it here, and it just needs more air time, more opportunity for it to be shown.”
