Featherweight Antonio Carvalho has become the latest fighter to be cut from the UFC, after amassing a 2-2 record in his last four fights.

The 33-year-old announced his release from the UFC on May 6, following a TKO defeat to Darren Elkins at UFC 158. While fighters often stay on the UFC’s books with worse records, the defeat was enough to prompt the organisation to release the Canadian from the stacked division.

On his Facebook, Carvalho said: “Just got word today, I’m no longer with the UFC roster at this point. Too many fighters in the FW division and they need to cut back. So yes, I’ve been cut.”

Pablo Garza (12-4), who also fights at 145lbs, was also recently cut, and both will now need to put a string of victories together outside the UFC if they hope to someday return. But for Carvalho, (15-6) he’s not sure what the next step is.

“I don’t know where I will go from here. I’ll just have to sit back and think about what I want to do next with my life. Thanks again to everyone that has always supported me.”
