UFC 175 took place last night, July 5 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. In the main event of the evening, wrestling expert Chris Weidman continued to feature his striking skills and impressed greatly, solidifying his status as the top 185lb fighter in the world, and in doing so moved on from his controversial victories over former king Anderson Silva. Lyoto Machida lived up to expectation as a very worthy challenger in what a tremendous fight, but with the Weidman emerging as the clear winner.

In the co-main event, Women’s phenom Ronda Rousey did what was expected, and more. The undefeated champion claimed yet another first round stoppage, this time in just 16-seconds. The Olympic Judoka produced a truly brilliant finish by pressuring Davis with punches and planting a knee on the face of her challenger before deploying the trademark judo throw and following up with strikes from side control.

Unfortunately, the heavyweight bout of Stefan Struve vs Matt Mitrione was called off under sad circumstances when Struve, who was cleared by doctors to return for the first time since being diagnosed with a heart condition, suffered what UFC President Dana White referred to as a ‘panic attack’ backstage.
