Former UFC Welterweight Champion Johny Hendricks (17-6) looks set to make his Middleweight debut sooner than expected. The Texan is riding a three fight losing streak that includes his first TKO loss to 170 pound title challenger Stephen Thompson (13-1-1).
He will make his 185 pound debut against former Bellator champ Hector Lombard (34-6-1 (2)). Lombard is also winless in his last three bouts. His last win came at UFC 171 when Hendricks was crowned Welterweight champion.
Hendricks is moving to the Middleweight division after a series of issues cutting weight. He was 2.5 pounds over the limit for his last fight with Neil Magny (19-5). Previous to that he was pulled from UFC 192 against Tyron Woodley (16-3-1) because he was admitted to hospital with weight cutting issues.
UFC Halifax lost it’s main event after Stefan Struve (28-8) pulled out with injury. It has not been confirmed whether or not Hendricks v Lombard will be the main event.
