A move that will hopefully reinvent the Olympic Judoka’s UFC career, Hector Lombard (32-4-1,1) has finally decided to move down from middleweight, and enter the 170lb division.

A dominant champion in Bellator’s middleweight division, the Cuban’s UFC arrival at 185lbs was highly anticipated. In a lacklustre performance, the 35-year-old stalled upon his UFC debut, losing a split-decision to American Tim Boetsch. Since then, Lombard has accumulated a 1-2 record in the world’s leading MMA promotion.

Known for being an undersized middleweight, Lombard explained he never felt the need to drop, but that UFC officials were keen to see it happen. Speaking on Fuel TV’s UFC Tonight, he revealed an Autumn bout with former Strikeforce champion Nate Marquardt (32-12-2) is something he has in mind.

In response, Marquardt stated, “Sure, why not?”
