Michael Bisping, love or hate him, is a wanted man, and a man on the name of every fan and fighter’s lips. This weekend has been no exception.

American middleweight contender Chris Weidman vowed to end his losing streak in his native Long Island against Arizonan Kelvin Gastelum. After consecutive defeats to Luke Rockhold, Yoel Romero and Gegard Mousasi, it was make or break time for the “All-American.”

After suffering severe punishment at the end of the round one, Weidman somehow managed to survive and see it through to the second. He enjoyed far more success in there, executing numerous takedowns and landing strikes to the face of Gastelum.

The third round started as a carbon copy of the second with numerous takedowns performed by the highly skilled wrestler. Weidman then had his opening and sunk in an arm-triangle choke, forcing Gastelum to tap out.

Following the victory, Weidman was evidently fired up. Before a prolonged celebration with friends and family, Weidman proceeded to call out middleweight champion Michael Bisping after his victory, claiming: “I am the champion and everyone knows it!.” Weidman called Bisping an “English bum” in the process.

In typical fashion, “The Count” was quick to react to the news of Weidman’s victory speech and posted a trademark Bisping response.

The American responded in a humorous fashion, with ‘Twitter legend’ Chase Sherman contributing to the war of words.

With the news of Robert Whittaker being medically suspended til 2018, Bisping’s next fight is up in the air with Georges St. PierreYoel Romero and Chris Weidman all rumoured to be in the running.

Whilst GSP is a clear favourite to be Bisping’s next opponent, Chris would provide a fresh face and another one of the top five middleweights on the planet to potentially be added to the Englishman’s resume.

However, the Twitter feud didn’t end there. Weidman slammed Bisping due to a facial injury, mocking the Englishman and provoking a reaction in the process.

The Serra-Longo fight team athlete responded, accusing Bisping of hypocrisy. Bisping was filmed ripping up a small Cuban flag and throwing it at Romero following his decision loss to Whittaker.

Whether a fight between the pair of fighters materialises or not is yet to be seen but there is certainly some beef between the pair of middleweights and with much of the 185-pound division unavailable or resting, he provides an option for a showdown with Bisping later this year.
