In a bizarre and extraordinary weigh in day in New York, we recap the two main talking points of the day with Daniel Cormier miraculously making weight and Pearl Gonzalez removed from the UFC 210 card due to a breast implant.

The highly anticipated bout between light-heavyweight king Daniel Cormier and challenger Anthony “Rumble” Johnson looked to be in severe jeopardy as the Californian missed weight originally by 1.2 lbs. However, after a couple of minutes, “DC” returned and made exact weight at the second time of asking.

Losing a pound in such a short space of time has caused for immediate speculation as to how Cormier made weight and how the New York State Athletic Commission part in the process.

The main theories behind the weight making are vomiting, excretion or placing his weight on the towel he came out with. However, there has been no evidence or proof to suggest what the cause of the weight loss was.

The fight with “Rumble” Johnson is still set to go ahead despite the weight controversy and will be fought for the light-heavyweight title held by Cormier.

NYSAC rule Gonzalez out

Women’s strawweight prospect Pearl Gonzalez has been pulled off the UFC 210 card due to a NYSAC ruling that prohibits competitors from having breast implants.

Gonzalez was set to make her UFC debut against Cynthia Calvillo on the main card of the event which takes place at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York. Gonzalez was told by an NYSAC official post weigh-in that she would not be able to compete.

As mmajunkie.com report: “Calvillo’s Team Alpha Male coach, Justin Buchholz, told MMAjunkie after the official weigh-ins that the fight is off for now but that he and Calvillo are operating under the assumption that UFC officials are working behind the scenes with the NYSAC in an attempt to salvage the fight”.

With a first round win over Amanda Cooper at UFC 209 in her promotional debut, Calvillo will be hoping for the fight to go ahead and to continue her surge up the strawweight division.

UPDATE: Upon review by the NYSAC (and likely a lot of pressure from the UFC) the fight between Gonzalez and Calvillo is back on the Buffalo card.

UFC President Dana White confirmed the news on Twitter.
