After a stunning upset win over previously undefeated Alexa Grasso at UFC HoustonFelice Herrig insists “I hope the UFC do the right thing and give me either Paige [VanZant] or Michelle Waterson.”

3/1 underdog “Lil Bulldog” was looking to follow up on her win over Kailin Curran and bounce back in style after a disappointing loss to strawweight contender Paige VanZant in April 2015. The Illinoisan did this in impressive style.

After commanding the first two rounds against Mexican prospect Grasso, the 23-year-old eventually found her rhythm in the third round but it was too little, too late for the Lobo Gym athlete.

Herrig wants rematch with Paige Vanzant

For Herrig, she is hoping for a ranked opponent and has expressed strong interest in a match-up with either “12 Gauge” or “The Karate Hottie.”

The Team Curran athlete stated in the presser that she did not feel 100% in the first fight with Paige: “The doctor reached out to my manager and he worked with a lot of fighters and said ‘there is something wrong with Felice and her levels. I can work with her and I can fix her’ and I think if I hadn’t have got fixed I probably would’ve just gone on a downward slope.”

Felice feels she has a point to prove against the top-10 contender. After not feeling herself in their first bout, this represents a huge opportunity. With VanZant losing two of her last three bouts, a rematch with her may be the perfect opportunity for the 32-year-old to make her ascendancy on the women’s strawweight division. With the Nevadan still being ranked in the top 10, it would be a reputable scalp and an avenged loss for the UFC veteran.

From Mexico to New Mexico

From the Mexican to the New Mexican, a targeted fight with Michelle Waterson would undoubtedly be the biggest fight of Herrig’s career and a real prove of her worth. With two consecutive wins by submission including a first round rear-naked choke of VanZant in her last fight, the no. 7 contender is a force to be reckoned with.

Herrig revealed in the post-fight press conference: “I was offered the Waterson fight at Sacramento and two weeks after had the fight taken from me and given to Paige.” “Lil Bulldog” then went on to reveal how she has wanted a fight with Waterson for a decade. She was quoted saying: “I was actually on a reality show with Michelle Waterson, a Muay Thai show, long time ago, ten years ago and I’d tried to fight her in a Muay Thai fight ever since then and then MMA, it’s a fight I have always wanted.”

With both fighters having an excellent ground game, this fight is an exciting prospect.
