UFC Fight Night 110, the UFC’s return to New Zealand will reportedly have a heavyweight main event between native Mark Hunt and surging talent Derrick Lewis.

MMA Junkie first reported on the match-up, which has yet to be signed or announced by any party involved, though sources close to Junkie confirmed that the bout is in the works.

UFC Fight Night 110 takes place in Auckland, New Zealand on June 11. Notably, Hunt (12-11-1 1NC) is under medical suspension until April 19, due to injuries sustained in his fight against Alistair Overeem, and no bout agreement can be signed by the 42-year-old until he receives medical clearance.

For Lewis (18-4 1NC), this fight represents his third consecutive UFC main event, having previously dispatched of Shamil Abdurakhimov and Travis Browne on the top of the card in his last two outings. The New Orleans native is currently on a six-fight winning streak, and he currently sits at number six in the official UFC rankings.

Hunt actually competes in his hometown of Auckland for the first time in his entire career, though he has spent much of his life living in Australia. A one-time Interim-heavyweight championship contender, Hunt looks to get back to winning ways, following his recent knockout loss to Overeem at UFC 209. A tough customer, Hunt holds knockout wins over Frank Mir, “Bigfoot” Silva and Roy Nelson amongst others.

The UFC returns to Auckland for the first time since June 2014. There, Nate Marquardt defeated James Te Huna in the main event; whilst Robert Whittaker, who is set to face “Jacare” Souza next month, kicked off his current six-fight winning streak against Mike Rhodes that same evening.

The reported fight between Mark Hunt and Derrick Lewis is the only fight to have been announced this far. Stay tuned to MMA Plus for further news and updates when we get them.
