UFC 183: Silva vs. Diaz took place last night (January 31) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Now fully recovered from a horrific leg break suffered at the back end of 2013, former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva returned to face Nick Diaz who also competed for the first time after an extended break from the sport.

Diaz adopted his classic mental offense, but with a Silva twist. The Stockton native talked trash, lowered his hands, backed himself up against the cage, and hit the canvas while daring Silva to approach. Diaz was unable to lure Silva away from his counter-strike gameplan, but at times landed a decent amount of punches despite Silva not looking to engage, to the crowd’s frustration. However, for the amount that Diaz landed, he missed just as many, meanwhile Silva landed the more notable shots and dished out a grizzly black eye to his opponent with both his hands and powerful kicks which reflected on the scorecards.

The Judges scored the contest 50-45, 50-45, 49-46 in favour of the Brazilian.
