The British Association of Mixed Martial Arts (BAMMA) have today announced that undefeated up and comer Regis Sugden will take on Alan Philpott, a veteran of 20 fights, for the promotion’s vacant British-Lonsdale Bantamweight Championship when BAMMA 22 hits the 3 Arena in Dublin on September 19.

With plans to bring an army of supporters, Alan ‘The Apprentice’ Philpott (13-7) from Ballymena, Northern Ireland joins the historic first ever BAMMA card in Dublin after his debut at BAMMA 20. Fighting out of Next Gen NI, he brings a reputation for submission stoppages that could be the key solving the striking puzzle that is Regis Sugden.

Philpott saw a streak of three victories snapped last April when he suffered a submission loss to England’s Ed Arthur for BAMMA’s vacant world title.

Philpott stated: “BAMMA coming to Dublin is exciting as this island needs a big show. Since BAMMA has come back they have been pulling the shows out of the bag. It’s good for the Northern and Southern Irish fighters as it means our supporters can get to our fights easier.

“The 3 Arena is massive and will be a good taste of what it’s like on the big stage. I’m excited about my fight with Regis. I like him, he’s a good kid with bags of talent. Saying that, I know I am the better all round fighter. He has had a couple of wins and is looking good, though anyone can look good against bums!

“I will be fired up and back to my normal self in this fight. I actually think Regis is a bigger threat than Ed. When I fought him I was too calm and I didn’t like it. I couldn’t even get out of 1st gear and I was smashing him.

“This time I will be going for it from the start. I am getting back to finishing my opponents and getting my name back in line for the title. I lost and everyone was talking about me. When I win everyone will still talk about me. I want to represent Northern Ireland and get back to my winning ways.

“No ninos solo hombre”

Sugden simply explained, “Better opponent, same intentions, same result… Be ready!”

Regis ‘The First’ Sugden (3-0) may still be in the early stages of his MMA career, but boasts world class kickboxing prowess with a so far flawless transition to MMA; snatching two TKO stoppages and even a submission along the way, giving us a taste of some rounded ability.
