BAMMA 26, Craig

Rumours have begun circulating this evening that an injury to Light-Heavyweight champion Paul Craig (8-0) has torpedoed his first title defence against Chris Fields (11-7-1) at BAMMA 26 next month.

BAMMA 26 is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 10 2016 at the 3 Arena in Dublin, Ireland.

A source close to Craig indicated that the Scottish Hit Squad man; who has made an unbeaten start to his MMA career finishing all of his eight victims inside six-minutes, has suffered an injury to his ankle ligament which has forced him out of this highly anticipated showdown.

As well as this, a close source to BAMMA has also confirmed the news to MMA Plus.

This suspected development will come as a big disappointment to 32-year-old SBG Ireland trained Fields, who entered the contest looking to record back-to-back wins for the first time since February 2012.

Fields is coming off an impressive 1st round submission win against Dan Konecke via Brabo Choke in front of a Dublin crowd at BAMMA 24 in February. In the aftermath of the victory, the two fighters clashed back stage which resulted in the powers that be at BAMMA deciding to give Fields a crack at Craig’s Light-Heavyweight belt.

It is unclear whether or not Fields will remain on the card but we will bring you more on this story as it develops.
